Waipureku Waitangi Commemoration 2024

Te Hokinga Mahara o Waipureku Waitangi.

Join us to commemorate the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi at Te Awa o Mokotuararo (Clive), Hawke's Bay! This historic event, close to where Te Tiriti was signed in 1840, promises a day of reflection and action.

Starting at 7:45 am at Atea a Rangi, Waitangi Park, with karakia, followed by a Hikoi of Unity to Farndon Park. Bring your flags.

Haka powhiri at 8:45 am, led by Manawhenua, followed by speeches from our local mayors and a keynote address from Heather Te Au-Skipworth QSM on "Te Tiriti In Action – now and in the future." The morning ends at 10:30 am.

At 1:00 pm, renowned historian Patrick Parsons opens with the history of Waipureku and the signing of Te Tiriti in Te Matau a Maui/Hawke's Bay.

From 1:30 pm onwards, we'll hear speakers discussing their perspectives/experiences on honouring Te Tiriti, followed by a panel discussion on "The State of the Nation: Moving Forward as Te Tiriti Partners."
