Forest And Bird Blowhard Bush Public Open Day

Lawrence Road Waiwhare, Hastings

Kia ora!

Our Forest and Bird branch is continuing our centenary celebrations with an open day at our special reserve, Blowhard Bush. Blowhard Bush is a 63 ha block of native forest which is just off the Taihape Road about 45 mins from Fernhill. We invite you to join us – bring your family and/or your friends.

Come and talk to the team about the forest and what lives within it or about our track maintenance and pest control programme. Join a guided walk with a knowledgeable team member or just hang out and have a good look around while we are there to chat with. This is an opportunity to see unusual rock formations, listen to, or spot a variety of native birds and come up close to forest giants. There is a great view of the Kaweka ranges from the lookout at the top of the reserve.

If you decide to join a guided walk, these will last approximately 2.5 hours at a gentle pace. They will depart at 10.30am and 2.30pm after a short briefing. Alternatively, you can choose an easier walk of 30 - 40 mins on the interestingly named Troglodyte Track departing at the same times.

If you wish to join a guided walk, you will need to book and places are limited so that we can make it a really good experience for all participants.
